About Us

Committed to Energy Security

The Virginia Energy Forum is a growing community of concerned citizens committed to two goals – achieving energy security for our country and holding our elected officials more accountable in shaping energy policies.

We have come together to better educate ourselves about energy issues and to support a balanced approach to increasing American supplies of energy.

We support expanded conservation efforts, development of renewable energy sources and increased domestic exploration of traditional, non-renewable energy sources.

If you believe strongly that we must address the growing challenge of energy security through a non-partisan comprehensive, balanced approach, then the Virginia Energy Forum is your community.

Virginia Energy

Virginia accounts for more than 5% of U.S. coal production east of the Mississippi River.

Two of Virginia’s coalbed methane fields are among the top 100 natural gas fields in the United States.

Assessments show substantial oil and gas reserves underlie land offshore Virginia.

Virginia’s offshore Atlantic waters and Chesapeake Bay have high wind power potential.

Coal-fired power plants account for about 1/2 of state electricity; two nuclear power plants generate another third; and natural gas- and petroleum-fired plants account for the rest.
